"Hope Is A Discipline" is a print design based on a quote by activist, educator, and organizer Mariame Kaba. The unique combination of digital imagery included in this poster blends the pictographic framework of ancient Mesoamerican Codices, Medieval Manuscripts, and Japanese Video Games with the seductive, attention-seeking interfaces of Big Data Technologies. By conjuring such vast art historical and contemporary visual references, Menchaca expresses an emancipatory internationalist sentiment of hope and solidarity for achieving racial equity in the 21st century for Black and Indigenous communities.
