Critics of the Big-Tech industry often draw parallels to the untamed frontier of the American West. But what about the racialized black and brown folks subjected to automated vigilante violence propped up by myths of a white ethno-nationalist state in dire need of protection? This project recalls recurring themes in Hollywood Western movie posters, outlining Big-Tech’s evolution from a handful of scrappy Silicon Valley startups to an autonomous, decentralized, unregulated virtual frontier, popularly referred to as “Web 3” within the industry, to illustrate the "Data-Criminalization" and "Crimmigration" business models of today's Big Tech companies as a sequence of outlandish high-tech colonial Wild West frontier fantasies.
